Asparagus

A guide to growing your own!

Asparagus is a tricky plant to grow, but one that tastes great and requires little care and maintenance. You can buy asparagus plants in the shops as seedlings but also if you find the right outlet, as clumps of roots which you dig directly into the soil. Asparagus shoots will appear during the right season and if left unpicked will flourish into bushes of thin leaves - almost like hair.

How do I cook asparagus?

Asparagus can be steamed and served as a delicacy, entree or side serve for many popular dishes. It is not an easy vegetable to grow and does not produce much volume for the land it takes up, but if you are looking for something a bit different, asparagus is definitely worth giving a go.
