Carrots

Carrots

A guide to growing your own!

Carrots are actually suprisingly difficult to grow as they must be planted in fairly non rocky soil. As the main root which becomes the carrot searches, it will get redirected or even split by small rocks and you will end up sometimes with an octopus carrot with about 8 legs! Carrots are great for a few reasons however, the first that they taste pretty good, and the second is that they can be left in the ground until you want to use them. Therefore it is a great idea to throw a few rows of carrots in the vege patch each year. Dont forget to get the rocks out of the soil.

Parsnips

Parsnips are very similar to carrots, although white in colour and a different flavour. Great to combine with potatoes and carrots in a roast, or as a steamed or boiled vegetable as a side.
